MARCH 9, 2015 – JERSEY CITY, NJ — The Hudson County Genealogical & Historical Society, one of the only genealogy and family history groups focused entirely on the study of Hudson County, New Jersey, is pleased to announce the agenda for its March 14, 2015 meeting. John Zinn, author and independent historian, will present “The Mutinous Regiment: The 33rd NJ in the Civil War.”
John Zinn will discuss his book detailing the 33rd New Jersey regiment's formation in the midst of the draft riots of 1863 and its three campaigns under General Sherman in 1864 and 1865. Based on original source material, the book vividly describes the experiences of the soldiers in a regiment that lost 25 percent of its recruits to desertion even before leaving New Jersey, and then effectively walked from Chattanooga to Washington, D.C., by way of Atlanta and Savannah.
The Hudson County Genealogical Society Meeting will be held on March 14, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Secaucus Public Library's Panasonic Room located on the 2nd floor of the library at 1379 Patterson Plank Road, Secaucus, New Jersey. Admission and parking are free and the library is handicapped accessible.
