A Presentation by Susan Scherman, November 8, 2014

A Historical Discussion of The Daniel Bermes Brewery of Union City, New Jersey and The William Schimper & Company of Hoboken, New Jersey

OCTOBER 30, 2014 -– JERSEY CITY, NJ -- The Hudson County Genealogical & Historical Society, one of the only genealogy and family history groups focused entirely on the study of Hudson County, New Jersey, is pleased to announce the agenda for its November 8, 2014 Meeting.

Documentary filmmaker Susan Scherman will discuss the subject of her film, The Daniel Bermes Brewery that was owned by her great-great-great-uncle from 1852 to 1903. It was the largest brewery in Hudson County at the time and had an annual output of 200,000 barrels. Produced together with her partner Mauro de Trizio, the short film “The Daniel Bermes Boulevard Brewery” was one of the finalists in the Fifth NoHu (North Hudson) International Short Film Festival.

Susan Scherman will also be showing and discussing a second documentary she produced about the company of another of her ancestors: The William Schimper & Company in Hoboken, which was a jewelry and metal plating enterprise.

The Hudson County Genealogical Society Meeting will be held on November 8, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Secaucus Public Library's Panasonic Room located on the 2nd floor of the library at 1379 Patterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ. Admission and parking are free.
