Civil War Veterans Buried in Hudson County

The Hudson County Genealogical & Historical Society now has access to a series of grave registration records for Civil War veterans who were buried in Hudson County, New Jersey. The records consist of thousands of index cards that often recorded not only the name, date and location of death but also often their Civil War service information, cause of death, where they were buried and more. The cards themselves may not hold complete information and the set of index cards is most likely not a complete list of veteran burials within Hudson County, but it may help in your family history research.

The cards themselves are not currently available for online searching or viewing, but if you would like to request a name lookup you can contact the Society via email at:

projectsCWB@hudsoncountynjgenealogy.org

Please include as much information as you can in your query to maximize chances of finding the person you're seeking.

The Hudson County Genealogical & Historical Society also owns a copy of Bob MacAvoy's book Our Brothers Gone Before to use as a resource in looking up Civil War veterans if no match is found in the cards. Our Brothers Gone Before is the title of a two volume set of reference books that document over 40,000 Civil War veterans burials in the State of New Jersey. The books were published in 2006, but the project begun in 1989, continues.
